DAVID PERRY’s hybrid comic book game SXPD AVAILABLE NOW for ipad

SAN FRANCISCO – May 22, 2014 – OneBigGame, the non-profit publisher of videogames, has proudly launched SXPD: The Rookie, now available on the App Store for iPad devices.

Developed specifically for OneBigGame’s charity initiative, SXPD was directed by games industry legend David Perry (a.o. Earthworm Jim, MDK, Messiah) and developed by Little Chicken Game Company in collaboration with graphic novel writer and artist Duke Mighten (a.o. DC Comics’ Batman: Book of Shadows, Marvel Comics’ Punisher 2099, Judge Dredd).

The fast-paced narrative revolves around the adventures of the SXPD, a female-only police force battling the forces of evil in the fantastical city of New Royale. The app can best be described as the world’s first true comic book game, in which state of the art comic book pages transform seamlessly into hi-octane racing game action and vice versa.

SXPD has been created specifically for OneBigGame, and net proceeds will be donated to the non-profit initiative, which the company will disperse among a number of official charity partners.

“We are extremely proud of SXPD,” commented Martin de Ronde, OneBigGame. “When David first pitched the idea to us as a project for OneBigGame, I expected it to be great, but it has turned out to be unique, something truly special, and a great new addition to the OneBigGame catalogue.”

“When OneBigGame asked me to contribute to their charity initiative, I took inspiration from my favorite 8-bit game of all time, 3D Deathchase on the ZX Spectrum,” said David Perry. “This game is a tribute to that masterpiece as well as a unique game in its own right, bringing together comic books and games in a new way.

“OneBigGame is all about bringing developers together to do something good and have fun at the same time, and SXPD is the perfect example of that,” said Duke Mighten of Mighten Ink. “As a comic book artist and art director on games, I’ve always been intrigued by the overlap between these two forms of entertainment, and SXPD is a cool blend of comic and games.”

“As a project for charity, SXPD has been a labor of love for us, and we feel this really shows in every aspect of the game,” said Michiel Sala, CEO, Little Chicken. “We hope fans of racing games and comic books will feel the passion with which we’ve built this product.”
